What are Paper Covered Copper Wires?

Paper Covered Copper Wires are copper conductors insulated by wrapping one or more layers of electrical-grade insulating paper around the conductor. Unlike enamelled winding wires, paper-covered conductors are primarily used in oil-filled transformers where the paper insulation becomes impregnated with transformer oil, creating a highly reliable insulation system with excellent dielectric properties.

The paper covering also provides additional mechanical protection during winding and improves resistance to electrical stress, making these conductors suitable for medium and high-voltage transformer applications. Paper-covered conductors are widely used in transformer manufacturing because of their excellent compatibility with mineral oil and synthetic insulating fluids.
